Girl, 12, hurt in hit-and-run in Brooklyn Park, police say

BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. — A 12-year-old girl was injured in a hit-and-run in a northern Minneapolis suburb Wednesday morning, police said.
She was heading to her bus stop near 63rd and Boone avenues around 8:40 a.m. when a driver struck her, according to the Brooklyn Park Police Department.
The girl was taken to a hospital with “moderate injuries,” police said.
Authorities described the suspect vehicle as a white Hyundai Sonata made between 2015 and 2019, with a missing mirror on the passenger’s side. Police said the driver was a White female of unknown age.
Tobias Patterson said he was one of many students waiting for the bus when they heard loud screams.
“We were waiting at our bus stop and a bunch of girls tried going to the gas station to get snacks before the bus came and some girls came back running screaming saying someone got hit,” Patterson said.
Instead of stopping, the woman took off, leaving the girl lying in the road.
A letter was sent to Plymouth Middle School parents, informing them “a serious incident” took place, adding that a “student was struck” and other kids “at the bus stop… witnessed the incident.”
Brooklyn Park mom Bridgit Heil wants to drive home a serious message about safety.
“There are tons of kids in this neighborhood, please slow down,” Heil said.
Anyone with information about the hit-and-run is asked to call police at 763-493-8222.
